Center Drive Conveyor

The Center Drive Conveyor places a repositionable drive along the conveyor length, leaving space at the infeed and discharge ends. Its Type B design combines reversible operation, quick belt replacement and Standard or Automation styles.

Conveyor Technologies helps select the conveyor and drive arrangement for your application.

Features and benefits

Repositionable Center Drive

The drive can be repositioned in 3 in increments along the conveyor. This placement is useful when neither end has clearance for a motor, including longer conveyor layouts and applications with product overhang.

Quick Belt Replacement

Endless belts can be replaced without removing the drive or dismantling the conveyor from its stands. The Type B design provides access for quick belt changes, with the belt-removal path kept clear.

Calibrated Belt Tensioning and Tracking

Gauges on each side of the belt calibrator provide two maintenance references:

Single-Piece Frame and Sealed Bearings

Conveyors 10 ft and under use a single-piece frame. Bearings are sealed and lubricated for life, removing the need for routine bearing lubrication.

Options and accessories

Machine fit

Conveyor style, length and drive placement.

Standard and Automation Styles

Standard and Automation styles are available in U.S. and metric versions, with optional side rails.

Custom Lengths

Conveyor Technologies helps coordinate custom length and drive position with the machine layout.

Movement

Reversible travel and the drive conditions that affect it.

Reversible AC and DC Drives

AC and DC motor options support travel in either direction. Conveyor Technologies helps select the drive for the required speed, loading and movement sequence.

Inclined travel, accumulation, or reverse travel away from the drive may require increased belt tension and torque. Conveyor Technologies reviews these conditions when selecting the drive.

Product positioning

Side-guide clearance and optional holders.

Side Guides and Width Extenders

Optional side guides help contain products during transport. Width extenders provide additional distance between rails.

With the applicable extenders, Center Drive guide-clearance dimension “D” can be 3 in greater than the values listed in the guide drawings. This is an increase in guide clearance, not belt width.

Explore Side Guides for guide shapes, adjustment choices and clearance details.

Part Holders

Optional, customizable part holders provide product-contact tooling for the required position and presentation.

Cleaning environment

Frame choices for the operating conditions.

Stainless Steel Frame

A stainless steel frame option is available for washdown applications and environments requiring frequent cleaning. The configuration depends on the cleaning method, chemicals and moisture exposure.

The nominal catalogue schedule lists common length choices; it does not set the 40 ft limit above. Belt width and conveyor length do not describe the complete installation: drive and belt-change access also need space.

Applications and integration

Drive placement, transfer ends and the surrounding machine envelope are considered together.

Machines with Limited End Clearance

Center-drive placement supports layouts where a motor cannot be positioned at either end. This includes machine integration, die-area arrangements in metalworking and stamping, and mold-area arrangements in plastics and injection molding.

Specialized Operating Environments

The Center Drive Conveyor is suitable for cleanroom, pharmaceutical and high-temperature environments. Suitability for a particular installation depends on the configuration, cleanroom class, temperature and chemical or oil exposure.

The Selection Guide compares conveyor approaches. The Transfer and Product Control Guide explains product handoffs and support arrangements.
